And There Are Prizes!!!

As promised, I'm marking my 600th blog post with prizes (partly because I never got around to running a giveaway for my 500th).

The rules are simple:-

  • Each of the prizes below will be given away by drawing names on 15 March 2016.
  • To enter you have to be a follower of the blog and post a comment on this post saying which prizes you would be interested in.
  • The prizes will be drawn in the order they are listed below.  No one will win more than one prize, so the winner's name will be removed from subsequent draws (but see below).
  • The memorial prize is special.  Therefore the winner can also be considered for other prizes.
  • Merely for my own interest, and to butter me up, I'd like to know what you enjoy most about the blog, or what your favorite post has been.
Special Prize

In my mind I think of this one as the Robert Audin memorial prize.  These four books represent Victorian gothic horror, and I'd like them to go to someone who'd get real inspiration from them - either for their own writing or for gaming.

Other Prizes

Prize 1 - basically a picture book - images evocative of the UK's role in the Cold War.

Prize 2 - An English Heritage book - full of colour pictures of sites and re-enactors of various battles.

Prize 3 - Booklets that might be of interest, inc a Minifigs catalogue from  the 70s or 80s.  The Flags and Standards of the Napoleonic Wars is water damaged, but still useable.

Prize 4 - Booklets on WWII aviation

Prize 5 - Military museum guides.

Prize 6 - Vehicles (28mm for scale only).

Prize 7 - A Gripping Beast Hereward the Wake figure (white metal, 28mm).

Prize 8 - A 1:76 Landrover kit.

Prize 9 - A Hawker P.1127 and a Sea Hawk kit.

Prize 10 - A 1:72 Spitfire kit.

  1. Oooh first entrant. Maybe it will increase my odds. Great and eclectic range of prizes Edwin. Put my name in the hat for the special prize plus prizes 2,3 and 7 please.

I am a fan of most things that you post, but especially enjoy the Obits of Interest posts. Call it morbid fascination I guess...
    Congrats on the benchmark.
    Cheers Peter

    1. Hm, I must start posting the obits again.

Back in the 90s, I had a website where I transcribed all the naval and nautical obits that appeared in the national papers - until News International sent me a nasty letter...

  2. Very nice. I am interested in prize 3. The interesting Obits is always a good read. I also like the Terrain Tuesdays. I always enjoy swinging by for a visit.

  3. Congratulations on your 500+100+2 blog-posts!
I would be interested in the Robert Audin memorial prize (as I enjoy the 'period' and also as inspiration for my new (hopefully full-time) career in writing fiction) and prize 7 (you can never have to may vikings!)
What I like about your blog: essentially the variability - I enjoy the mix of posts.
    Cheers!

    1. You might just be disqualified for calling one of our great Anglo-Saxon heroes a 'viking'!

    2. I see him as a honorary viking and as a mere Anglo-Saxon hero he should be flattered ;-)
He will probably see action in mostly fantasy settings as a bad-ass fighter. Maybe as a Frostgrave captain.

  4. Dear Edwin, what a splendid thing you have done. I thoroughly enjoy being a follower of your blog most particularly because of the sense of enthusiasm that you instil in all that you undertake. You are generous to a fault, always with a kind word for others and someone that has enriched my hobby sphere immeasurably. All that and you coined the phrase, "Everything is better with dinosaurs!" As for a prize, I would love to be considered for the memorial prize. Robert was a keen commentator on my own blog, as I was on his, and I have been thinking a lot about him of late, considering whether it would be appropriate to continue his legacy and discover more about the zombie outbreak of 1888.

    1. Well, that's an extraordinarily kind thing of you to say yourself. Thank you.

And thank you for introducing me to the Clocktopus!

  6. A generous selection of prizes and the Robert Audin prize is a very nice touch.
Shan't enter, but I'm off to promote the draw and the blog.
What a shame you got up the nasal passages of the Dodgy Digger. My heart bleeds for him.

    1. I put those books aside for a giveaway some time ago - and thought 'I bet Audin will go for these!'

I'm glad *you're* not accusing me of being eccentric! And what are you going to do now that cussing is illegal in Salford?

      Delete
    2. Cussin' is only illegal on Salford Docks, which is doubly ironic given the vocabulary of the former dockers :O)

  7. Congratulations Edwin! 600 postings constitute a large body of work!

What keeps me coming back for a visit? Tops for me are your jovial dialogs and the fact that I have grown to enjoy expecting the unexpected with each visit. Always a surprise! I also enjoy very much your sharing of your ups and downs in the hobby.

For prizes, please put me in the hat for #2 and #3. It would be very nifty to pick up that old Minifig catalog.

    Good luck to all!

  11. That's an awesome and interesting bunch of stuff. The Saga miniature would look nice in my collection.
Those books though...you have a habit of kicking of interest in all these things. Keep it up. cheers

    1. Sorry mate, which books did you want to be entered for?

  12. Edwin, I would be interested in the Special Prize, the Landrover, the Cold War Book or Prize three. Speaking of the special prize, I have spent many happy hours with that particular series and there are some really great titles there. David Stuart Davies is a gentleman after my own heart.

I quite like the Royals posts as you are my only source of that kind of news, which is rather thin on the ground here in the Republic.

  13. Hi Edwin, I always enjoy your meanderings no matter the subject. I don't comment much (something I should do something about) but am always reading. Would love to be entered for #7, #8 and #9

    1. Yes, 'meanderings' sums it up nicely. Please do throw a comment in whenever you feel like it.

I've put you in for the kits.

I'd like to be entered into no 3 and 7 please.
Although I've not much interest in playing the period, (if you can class Dr Who as a period that is?) I always enjoy your Dr Who posts, it amazes me at the variety of Dr Who baddies there are out there!!
